The MIDNIGHT RUN

97 Main Street, Dobbs Ferry, New York 10522 (914) 693-7817 Fax (914) 693-9447 Email : Dwmidnt@aol.com

WHAT IS MIDNIGHT RUN? The Midnight Run is a consortium of more than one hundred churches, synagogues, and schools in the metropolitan area. Three or four nights a week, volunteers travel into Manhattan; there they seek out the homeless poor. They deliver clothing, food, blankets, and personal care items. In the process, they try to break through the barriers of prejudice and fear that try to separate us into artificial categories of "homed" and "homeless".

Midnight Run is not a practical solution to the problem of homelessness and we don't claim it to be one. Instead, it operates on the premise that we all need to be better educated in order for real solutions to emerge. For a consensus to develop around answers to the tragedy of homeless people, those of us who are housed and those of us who are not must find common ground.

CAN I GO ON A MIDNIGHT RUN? Each Run is sponsored by a participating organization. Check the schedule (available from the office -914-693-7817) and contact the group leader for that night.

WHAT ABOUT COLLECTING CLOTHING? There is never enough material goods on the Midnight Run to satisfy every need. Midnight Run sees far more men than women ( and thankfully we don't usually see children). Therefore, we only need men's clothing. The most needed items are men's seasonal casual wear: socks & underwear pants (especially jeans) coats & jackets shirts (esp. T-shirts) sweatshirts & pants scarves, hats, gloves shoes (esp. sneakers or other soft-soled shoes)

We also need personal care items (hotel or sample sizes are best)-soap ,razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, deodorant, shampoo, lotion, etc

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? *Make food for the Run: sandwiches, fruit, desserts, hard-boiled eggs or juice boxes. *Volunteer at the office

The Midnight Run office at 97 Main Street Dobbs Ferry is generally open from 8:30-4:30 M-F and 9-12 on Saturdays to accept donations (best to call first).
